Well looking at financial news lately its pretty doom and gloom. The value of the dollar is way down. Of course that will happen with fiat currency since there is nothing backing the dollar. Gold is way up right now. Gee would have been nice to stay on that gold standard that the government took us off. The Price of Oil is also way up. Would have been good to be having drilling on our own soil right now also.
All of these problems have been caused by government. As a libertarian its easy for me to see how the government interferring in things makes bad things happen. The value of a dollar is basically worthless if looked at for what it really is a bit of ink and wood and cotton fibers. Money should be backed by something precious to make it have real value or should be scarce. Our money is backed by only a promise and its not scarce since the fed just keeps turning on the printing presses. This means the dollar is worth nothing.
There is a large segment of the population going "hey why are we not drilling for oil on our own land?". This is because the government will not allow it because of environmental groups lobbing to keep this from happening. One of the main problems in this is because the land that people want to drill on is government land. Real easy solution to this the government needs to sell off their land holdings then this is not an issue. If the company or person that buys the land and they pollute the land well its their issue to deal with. Private individuals usually don't want polluted land because it makes it really hard to sell at all. Before someone tries to say that we need to bring polluters under control I have to say this as soon as the number 1 polluter in the land is brought under control then we can talk. BTW its the US Government they don't even bother to follow their own regulations.
I don't want to be doom and gloom but I will be real unless something is done quickly we do face a large crisis. We may be facing another depression. This would be bad but in fact could have some benefits. Benefit one could be a fact that people finally see that our money needs to be something real not a promise. Benefit two could be that maybe people will start to see the government is causing these problems by trying to control the free market. Benefit three people begin to do for themselves because the government will be incapable of doing anything for them. People will want the government to do things but usually when this happens it only worsens the problem. The world if facing a potential crisis but one that can be averted if government will get out of the way.
I see that after a crisis like this people will be better off. The years will be hard but hopefully these hardships will make people stronger.

Budget fun with a Libertarian

Ok if you are reading this you probably know how Libertarians feel about governments spending money. Well Jacksonville FL is not different than any place else. The Link above goes to our budget office. Well last year I got a big nice glossy copy of the budget and showed it to many people that I know. Every single one of them Republican and Democrat alike thought that the city spent to much on the printing of this document. If you go down to city hall and go to the budget office they have awards for the presentation of the budget. Hey we have won lots of awards for our budget. In real world terms that means we have spent to damn much money on just printing the budget here in Jacksonville FL.
So on to stupid things in the budget. As a Libertarian I feel that government really only needs to do a few very basic things. Protect private property from violent people. Well they can't do that. Don't pay your taxes and you will have some very violent people coming to get your private property. Our wonderful government here has decided to implement not new taxes but new fees. Lets see government with their hands in my pocket well whats the difference between fees and taxes its all theft from me.
The budget here is filled ,like everywhere, with people with their hand out. Why should I pay for something that should be left to charity. Why should I pay for something I may not agree with. Why should you have to pay for something I agree with. Its not the governements job to do most of the things they do. Remeber that 100years ago lots of the things we think about as necessary to the city budget were not in the budget. So next time you are interested in getting some money from the city for some thing ask a Libertarian if they would pay for it most of the time they will say no. Then ask yourself would you pay for it out of pocket if you say no then don't make others pay for it. Remember we all pay for city government programs.

5th of November
As a Libertarian in Jacksonville fl. I was very happy to see how well Ron Paul did. Some may say he if you are a Libertarian why are you happy for a Republican Ron Paul. Really its simple. Ron Paul is the closest the Libertarians will get to a viable candidate in '08. Yesterday Ron Paul raise 4.2 million dollars in one day. Thats right he now leads the Republicans in money earned in one single day. To me that is an outstanding accomplishment.
But what made the 5th of November such an important day. Well if you have seen "V for Vendetta" then you will know. If you have not seen "V" then go and watch it now, do not wait do not pass go, Go watch "V" now ok I will wait. ..........
Ok now that you have seen it we can talk. While England is much closer to "V" right now we are not far behind. In England they have cameras every where and they can hear you and talk back to you. How is that for scary. Well think that could never happen here guess what New York loves the idea. Hmm where are two front runners in the presidential campaign from? Hmm let me think...... Oh yeah Rudy and Hillary are both from New York. BTW Chicago is also getting ready to install something similar. "V" basically deals with revolution against an oppressive police state.
So what does Ron Paul have to do with "V" well Ron Paul wants to keep us from going down the path that leads to what happens in "V". That is why people choose the 5th of November. The Ron Paul supporters do not want a bloody revolution they want a nice clean orderly Revolution of ideas. Liberty is an idea that the message is easy to talk about. Welcome
Ok well I think its time I started a new blog. I will make this blog about things going on in Florida from my point of view. I am a Libertarian in Jacksonville Fl and think its time I get my Libertarian thoughts out to the masses. As a Libertarian in Jacksonville Fl I see so many things I want to coment on from a Libertarian point of view that I think its time I started this blog.
I love living in Jacksonville Fl but being a Libertarian here can be frustrating at times. You think it hard to be a Liberal in a really heavy Republican area try being a Libertarian sometime. People think Libertarians are just Republicans who smoke pot. For the record I don't some pot but if you do that is all your choice.
As a Libertarian I feel that free people should be free to do what they want. Really I just want people to learn to leave others alone. Its good to help people out but there are limits.
Well I will flesh out more of these positions as things go on so I hope I will start to have more Libertarian readers here in Jacksonville fl and through out Florida. Thanks for reading.
